Now more than ever, an uncertain economy makes the future of the Methodist Hospital Foundation critical to our neighborhood.

To insure that future, the Foundation offers several opportunities for tax deductible contributions so we can reinvest in our South Philadelphia community.

Anne C. Rogan Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The Foundation administers Nursing Scholarships in memory of Anne Rogan, Methodist Hospital School of Nursing class of 2006. Anne lost her 12 year battle with cancer in 2008.

Anne C. Rogan, RN
1958-2008

"After I got sick—I know it sounds corny—but I knew I wanted to do something more with my life. When I was young I had quit college and always regretted it," said Anne. She would go on to finish her studies at night and became an R.N. "When I was getting IV chemo, I planned it around my weekend clinical shift," she explained.

The spirit that drives people like Anne to overcome any obstacle, to fulfill a dream and help others is the same spirit that the Foundation fosters for our community. Together we are responsible for making the lives of our fellow neighbors that much better.

Planned Giving
A planned gift allows you to make certain that resources are always available to support the community work of the Methodist Hospital Foundation. These gifts can be made in the form of cash, securities, real estate, annuities, trust, life insurance, personal property and bequests.

Life Insurance
By making Methodist Hospital Foundation the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy you are entitled to a charitable deduction each year that premiums are made or the year in which you transfer the policy.

Real Estate
Donors can leave their home or other real estate to the Foundation through their will and receive a 100% charitable tax deduction for estate tax purposes.

Gifts of a Pension/Retirement Plan/IRA
These represent some of the highest taxable estate items at a person’s death. Since these plans have been tax deferred, they are subject to income tax in addition to estate tax when given to children and grandchildren.  By making Methodist Hospital Foundation the primary or partial beneficiary of those assets, the income tax, estate tax and other taxes that may be applied will be avoided.

Bequests
The simplest and easiest way to make a planned gift is by naming Methodist Hospital Foundation as one of the beneficiaries of your estate.  A bequest can be a part of the body of your will or done as a codicil so the entire will does not have to be rewritten.

John Lucia, Anna's husband

Giving Tree Bears Fruit

When Anna Marie Lucia passed away, her friends, family and co-workers joined together to forever pay tribute to her memory. Engraved with her name for all to see is a Leaf on the Giving Tree. This $1,000 contribution bears witness to Anna's spirit as the Foundation uses the gift to improve the lives of others.

Carl and Ethel Hatter

A Former Student. A Generous Bequest.

The former Methodist nursing student, who gave so much to her patients at the Hospital, gave them one last gift. Ethel Geary Hatter and her husband Carl bequested $750,000 to the Foundation to be used to provide cardiac or kidney services.

And more than 70 years after stepping through the front door of the Methodist Hospital Nursing School, Ethel Geary Hatter is still helping to care for the patients of her community.
